The capability arrives. Builders rush to use the maximum of it. Nobody stops to ask what bad habits it is now making more expensive.

The 1 million token context window is the current version of this pattern.

Claude’s latest models can hold an enormous amount inside a single session. That is genuine progress. But the developers who have stress-tested this at production level are finding the same thing: the window is bigger, and so is the blast radius when discipline breaks down.

The cost numbers are not theoretical. A near-capacity session with a top-tier model can run several dollars in input tokens alone. Manageable for research. Dangerous inside an automated loop. One developer watched a single AI tool call consume close to a full context window by ingesting an entire database without restriction. The model did not warn them. It just used what it was given.

This is not a flaw in the model. It is a flaw in the assumption that bigger means more forgiving.

Context quality also degrades at extreme lengths. It has been documented across all long-context models, not just Claude. Information near the start and end of a session is recalled reliably. Everything compressed into the middle becomes less dependable. That sounds like discipline.

It is not discipline.

It is permission to ignore reality for twelve months.

I know because I just watched myself do it.

The Pattern I Missed In Myself

I launched an esports team and a clothing brand.

Set a rule.

One year minimum. No quitting before that.

I was not going to be the guy who jumped from project to project.

The esports team was dead by month three. The clothing floundered. I still build it today. But I kept the esports running for more than a year because I told myself commitment meant time.

Twenty years ago, my 35-year-old self made a classic mistake. I protected my ideas. I worried about “poachers.” I thought that if I shared the good stuff for free, I’d lose my leverage. I played that game for exactly one week.

Guarding my work didn’t make it valuable. It made it invisible. What I thought was “theft” was actually flattery. What I thought was “protection” was just insecurity.

Today, I have the confidence to know that you can’t poach a person’s source code. You can steal a sentence, but you can’t steal the twenty years of scar tissue that produced it. Rejection is fatiguing. If you spend your day chasing people in private and getting ghosted, you will burn out. You will quit.

The Veteran’s Move: Build in Public

Instead of hiding in the DMs or guarding your “secrets,” use the Restack.

The internet is loud because speed is easy. You can react instantly. You can publish endlessly. You can look busy all day and still make no real decisions.

AI made it worse and better at the same time.

Worse, because it multiplied output. Better, because it exposed something uncomfortable.

Speed alone does not create progress. It creates motion. Motion without judgment is just noise.

Judgment is the quiet part. Judgment comes from lived experience, from seeing patterns repeat, from knowing when not to act. That part did not get faster. It got more valuable.

The real divide is agency

The gap is not between young and old. It is between people who act and people who wait.

What it looks like in practice

This week, I sat down to write. I scrapped three ideas. They felt forced. I could have pushed through, published something adequate, checked the box.

Instead, I took a break. Came back when I was actually creative. Left myself enough time to do that without panic. I was also willing to just not publish an article.

That is agency. Not the dramatic part. The boring part.

Knowing when to stop forcing motion. Trusting the process instead of the schedule. Being willing to make the call that looks like nothing from the outside.

Most people do not give themselves that room. They create their own emergency, then complain about the pressure. They wait for external validation but will not validate their own judgment.

Agency is deciding you have permission to make those calls. Then making them.

The quiet advantage

Experience was never the problem. Hesitation was.

If you have been around long enough to recognize patterns, you already have an edge. The only thing missing is the willingness to use it without asking for approval.

Speed is everywhere now. Agency is still rare.

What Gary Got Right (And What I Saw First)

Gary’s Trend #1 in his 2026 manifesto is called “The Individual Empire.” He argues that influencers are no longer just making money from brand deals and Patreon subscriptions. They’re launching consumer packaged goods. The Kelce brothers raised a $200 million valuation on their beer brand. Emma Chamberlain launched coffee. Charli D’Amelio sells popcorn.

Gary’s point is simple: creators with audiences can now build empires that extend beyond digital content into physical products.

He’s absolutely right. But here’s what he didn’t say clearly enough, and what I recognized months ago when I started building this publication.

The shift isn’t just about adding a CPG brand to your Instagram bio. It’s about understanding that AI has fundamentally restructured what has value in the creator economy. Generic information is now free. If someone can get a customized answer from Claude or ChatGPT in four seconds, why would they pay $27 for your PDF guide?

They wouldn’t.

The market for commodified knowledge collapsed the moment AI became accessible. If your revenue model is built on selling information that an AI can generate, you don’t have a business. You have a ticking clock.

The Three-Layer Empire (Content, Systems, Atoms)

When I started VengaDragon back in October and November, I knew two things were inevitable. The first was the Interest Graph replacing the Social Graph (I proved that prediction this weekend). The 55/35 Advantage in the Empire Economy

This is where the 55/35 Protocol becomes the structural edge. The “55” (wisdom) remembers that real businesses have moats. You can’t right-click and save a bottle of olive oil or a custom mechanical keyboard. The “35” (speed) knows that AI just collapsed the barrier to entry for building these things.

Most 25-year-olds have execution speed but lack the pattern recognition to know which opportunities are real and which are shiny distractions. Most 55-year-olds have the wisdom but lack the operational stamina to ship at volume.

The 55/35 Protocol is the arbitrage. I know what to build because I’ve watched three decades of market cycles. I can execute at speed because AI handles the grunt work. Strategy is mine. Execution velocity is borrowed.

How to Weaponize Wisdom with Algorithmic Speed

Most people my age are being told to ease into things. Comfortable shoes. Reliable mutual funds. Articles about retirement planning. But here’s what I’ve learned: the most dangerous operator in the modern economy isn’t the 25-year-old who can code Python in their sleep. It’s the 55-year-old who has three decades of hard-won wisdom and decides to operate at 35-year-old execution speed.

The issue isn’t a lack of ideas. It’s a lack of tolerance for the grunt work.

I know what to write, but I don’t want to spend three hours formatting it. I understand exactly what the contract should say, but I don’t want to draft it from scratch. I can see the strategy clearly, but the thought of manually compiling research across fifteen sources makes me want to take a scream.

I have the map. I’m just tired of driving fast driving in order to be on time.

I am not slowing down because of my age; I am slowing down because my hard drive is full. Wisdom is useless if I can't access it quickly. To keep shipping knowledge, I must stop using my brain for storage and start trusting a system to grunt work.

Rev the OS of 55/35

Here’s what most people miss: this isn’t about AI “helping” you. It’s about understanding where decades of experience actually win, and where you need to borrow speed.

Where 55 Wins:

Pattern recognition. I can smell a bad strategy in three sentences because I’ve watched it fail forty-eight plus one times. I know which opportunities are real and which ones are just shiny distractions dressed up as innovation. I’ve seen entire market cycles. I remember what collapsed spectacularly in the early 2000s, what pivoted successfully later, what died quietly in recent years.

Network leverage. I know who to call. I know what they’ll say yes to. I know what’s a waste of everyone’s time before the first meeting even happens.

Strategic skepticism. I don’t chase trends because I was there when they were trends the first time. I can find clarity in the chaos because I’ve been buried in chaos and clawed my way out.

Where 35 Wins:

Execution velocity. No committee meetings. No “let me think about it for a week.” Just ship, iterate, ship again.

Volume tolerance. Publishing four times a week doesn’t feel like a grind when you’re 35. At 55, that same cadence without support is a path to burnout.

Tool adoption.

Learn the new platform.

Test the workflow.

Pivot when it doesn’t work.

Move fast because there’s time to recover from mistakes.

Operational stamina. The daily grind of production (the drafting, the formatting, the research synthesis, the repetitive tasks) doesn’t drain you at 35 the way it does at 55.

The 55/35 Handoff:

I decide what to build and why. AI handles the how and the grunt work. I am the strategist. AI is the construction crew.

This isn’t delegation. It’s range extension. I can now operate in domains I understand strategically but couldn’t execute on alone: coding workflows, data visualization, research synthesis, multimedia production. The strategy is mine. The execution speed is borrowed.

Here’s what the actual handoff looks like in practice:

I voice-note my chaotic thoughts while walking to the supermarket. Claude structures them into coherent drafts. I outline the strategic framework for a piece. AI handles the formatting, pulls supporting research, and organizes the visual hierarchy. I know what data matters for a decision. AI synthesizes it, visualizes it, and presents it in a way that’s actually useful.

But here’s what AI will never do:

Decide that starting in November was the right move because I was ready then. That’s operational readiness. Recognize that my “The Hoard Column” isn’t just curation (it’s a networking engine that triggers algorithmic reciprocity). That’s pattern recognition. Know when to invoke the Strategic Pause Protocol because the creative tank is empty. That’s operational wisdom. Understand that 51 subscribers treated with dignity matter more than 5,000 subscribers treated like vanity metrics. That’s values.

AI extends my range. It doesn’t replace my judgment.

The Operational Reality

If you’re between 45 and 65 and you feel like you have more strategy than stamina, more ideas than energy, this is your structural advantage.

Here is where things get unconventional: I figured this out because of cigars.

I stream a cigar show called Meet in the Middle Cigar Show with my wife Hyacinth and our friend LeeMack912. We smoke, we talk, and increasingly, we experiment with AI live on stream. Watching Leander chat with his AI bot in real-time, listening to Hyacinth research tobacco origins, and using it myself, it all clicked.

AI prompts work exactly like premium cigars.

Bad construction? The whole thing falls apart. Miss a critical component? You get a terrible experience. But roll it correctly, and you get something exceptional every time.

I broke this down into a framework I call C.I.G.A.R., and once you understand it, your AI outputs will transform.

The Anatomy of a Perfect Prompt

Think about a well-constructed cigar. It isn’t just tobacco leaves thrown together. There is a Box, a Band, Filler, a Wrapper, and a Binder, each serving a specific purpose.

Your AI prompt needs the same precision.

C: Context (The Box)

“Set the Stage”

When you grab a cigar box off the shelf, it tells you everything before you even open it. A dress box signals luxury. A cabinet suggests age and care. The packaging sets expectations.

In AI: Context is your background information. Don’t just ask a question, set the scene.

❌ Bad: “Write about productivity.”

✅ Good: “I’m writing for mid-level managers at SaaS companies who are drowning in meetings and looking for practical time management strategies.”

The second prompt gives the AI a world to work within. It knows the audience, the pain point, and the environment.

On our show, Hyacinth doesn’t just review a cigar, she researches the farm, the family, the region. That context transforms a simple smoke into a story. AI works the same way.

I: Identity (The Band)

“Define the Voice”

The band tells you what you are smoking. A Padrón 1964 Anniversary. An A.J. Fernandez New World. It establishes authority and sets expectations for quality.

In AI: This is your persona. Who should the AI be?

❌ Bad: “Explain machine learning.”

✅ Good: “Act as a patient university professor explaining machine learning to business students with no technical background.”

The persona shapes everything: word choice, complexity, tone.

Think about our show: I analyze construction and deduce origins. Hyacinth brings nuanced historical research. Leander gives blunt, contrarian takes with zero fluff. Same topic, three completely different voices. Tell the AI which voice you need.

G: Goal (The Filler)

“The Substance”

The filler is the meat of the cigar, ligero for strength, viso for flavor, seco for burn. Without quality filler, you are smoking air.

In AI: This is your task. What do you actually want?

❌ Bad: “Help me with email.”

✅ Good: “Write a 150-word follow-up email to a potential client who went silent after our demo three weeks ago. Acknowledge the gap, provide value, and suggest a specific next step.”

Vague goals produce vague outputs. Specificity is everything.

When LeeMack912 uses AI on stream, he doesn’t say “tell me about this cigar.” He asks specific questions: “Compare the Nicaraguan tobacco in this blend to similar puros from Estelí.” Well not always, he usually messes with it, (it’s entertainment) but specificity gets results.

A: Atmosphere (The Wrapper)

“The Flavor Profile”

The wrapper provides up to 80% of a cigar’s flavor. Connecticut shade tastes creamy and mild. Habano wrapper brings spice and complexity. The wrapper determines how everything else is experienced.

In AI: This is your tone and style. How should the output feel?

❌ Bad: Generic corporate-speak.

✅ Good: “Write in a conversational, slightly irreverent tone. Use short sentences. No jargon. Sound like you’re explaining this to a smart friend over coffee.”

The wrapper changes everything about how content lands with readers. Hyacinth doesn’t say “this cigar is good”, she describes it like a sommelier describes wine. The wrapper is the flavor. Tell AI what flavor you want.

R: Restrictions (The Binder)

“Hold It Together”

The binder is the unsung hero of cigar construction. It holds the filler bunch together and ensures an even burn. If the binder fails, the cigar tunnels, canoes, or falls apart completely.

In AI: These are your constraints, the guardrails that keep output focused.

❌ Bad: Letting AI ramble for 1,000 words.

✅ Good: “No corporate buzzwords. No bullet points. Under 300 words. Use active voice only.”

Constraints force clarity. They eliminate what doesn’t belong.

I use deductive reasoning to analyze cigars, eliminating what doesn’t fit until I identify the tobacco, the origin, the construction. The binder does the same thing for prompts. It keeps structure tight so your output burns clean.

Let’s Light It Up: Full Example

Here is how I would use the C.I.G.A.R. Method to generate content for this very blog:

• Context: I’m writing for business professionals subscribed to my tech blog who value creative, humanized approaches to AI.

• Identity: Act as an experienced technologist who teaches through unconventional metaphors and real-world examples.

• Goal: Write a 200-word explanation of why AI “hallucinations” happen and how to reduce them.

• Atmosphere: Conversational and clear. No academic jargon. Use analogies that click immediately.

• Restrictions: Under 200 words. No bullet points. Don’t use the phrase “large language model.”

The AI Output:

“AI doesn’t ‘know’ things the way you do. It predicts what word comes next based on patterns it saw during training. When you ask it something obscure or give it zero context, it fills gaps with plausible-sounding nonsense, that’s a hallucination.

Imagine asking someone to describe a restaurant they’ve never been to. They might say ‘it probably has tables and serves food,’ which is technically true but completely useless. To reduce hallucinations: be specific, provide context, and ask the AI to cite sources or admit when it doesn’t know. The more constraints you give it, the less room it has to improvise badly. Think of it like this, if you hand someone vague instructions and expect perfection, you’ll be disappointed every time. AI is powerful, but it’s not psychic.”

See that? Perfectly structured. On-brand. Ready to publish.

The Bigger Picture

You just learned prompt engineering through cigars. That is the point.

The best learning doesn’t always come from the expected places. Sometimes a hobby teaches you more about your profession than another certification course. Sometimes sitting with friends, smoking, and experimenting with AI on a livestream reveals patterns you’d never notice staring at a screen alone.

Next time you open ChatGPT or Claude, don’t just type and hope.

Set the Context. Define the Identity. Nail the Goal. Flavor it with Atmosphere. Bind it with Restrictions.

You know exactly what I’m talking about. You open LinkedIn, or X, or a newsletter, and you see it. The same confident but hollow tone. The same structure. The same words like “delve,” “tapestry,” and “landscape.”

It is content generated by a machine, pasted by a human, and read by nobody.

It is fast.

It is easy.

And it is a trap.

Because Large Language Models (LLMs) are Dream Machines, not truth machines. They prioritize flow over fact. They will “lie” to you with the absolute confidence of a Harvard professor.

If you copy-paste that lie, it becomes your lie.

Being a Trusted Source

My goal with VengaDragon isn’t just to produce content. It is to be a Trusted Source.

In 2026, trust will be the most expensive commodity on the internet. If you can prove that a human being actually vetted the information posted, you win.

Here is the “Trust But Verify” protocol I use to make sure I never serve you Copy Pasta.

1. The “Cliche” Audit (Restoring the Voice)

First, I look at the text. If it sounds like a corporate press release, I kill it.

AI loves to use words I never use. When was the last time you said “It is crucial to delve into the rich tapestry of this paradigm” to your friend at a bar? Never.

I strip the text down. I replace the “AI Cliches” with the words I actually use when I speak. If it doesn’t sound like me, it doesn’t go in the magazine.

A well thought out article about “the AI Slop” recipe was eloquently stated in an article by “AI slop is ruining everything” regarding the issue, Boyd writes, “And not weird like weird people. It’s inhuman. Chatbot slop lacks humor, uses highly repetitive structures, and is training people to talk like them, in a similarly fucked up way.”

Personally, I refuse to be stripped of my identity or sacrifice my natural quirkiness for AI jargon.

2. The Verification (Stopping the Lies)

I trust the AI to be creative. I do not trust it to be accurate.

When an LLM gives me a fact, a date, or a technical specification, I assume it is hallucinating until proven otherwise.

I verify the information against what I already know from 55 years of life. Then, I double-check it against the real internet. I don’t use Google for this anymore; I use Perplexity. (perplexity.ai)

Perplexity is different. It cites its sources. It gives me a little number next to the claim that links to a real website. If the link doesn’t back up the claim, I delete it.

3. The “Catfooding” (Testing the Strategy)

This is the most important step.

There are thousands of “Prompt Influencers” sharing complex prompts they have never actually run. They found them on Reddit and pasted them for engagement.

If I share a strategy in the Sentient column, or a tech stack in Scale, or a setting in The Forge, it is because I have physically done it.

I test the prompts. I click the buttons. I break the software so you don’t have to.

The Bottom Line

AI is a superpower, but only if you remain the pilot.

If you blindly trust the output, you are just a repeater node in a network of noise. If you verify, edit, and test, you become a signal.

Don’t serve Copy Pasta. Serve the truth.

That was the defense. Now we play offense.

Most people treat the prompt box like a chat window. They type a sentence, hit enter, and hope for the best.

“Write an email about my new product.”

This is the beachball approach. You are batting it blindly into a crowd and hoping the AI somehow catches it. (I actually teach a concept called ‘Beachball Marketing’ to new entrepreneurs: same problem, different context).

The 55/35 Protocol requires us to move from “Chatting” to “Engineering.” You don’t write a prompt. You build it layer by layer based on your wisdom.

The Architecture: R.C.F.

I use the exact same three-part architecture. It applies to marketing, coding, and strategy.

If you skip one, the structure collapses.

1. The Role (Who is the AI?)

If you don’t assign a role, the AI defaults to “Helpful Assistant.” This is boring. You want a specialist.

• Bad: “Help me write an ad.”

• Good: “Act as a Direct Response Copywriter with 20 years of experience in high-ticket sales.”

Why it works: It narrows the training data. It tells the AI which part of its “brain” to access.

2. The Context (Who are you?)

The AI doesn’t know you. It doesn’t know your business. You have to upload your brain into the context window.

• Bad: “I sell shoes.”

• Good: “I am launching a premium leather boot brand called VengaBoots. Our target audience is urban professionals who value durability over trends. The tone should be rugged but sophisticated.”

Why it works: Wisdom requires context. Without this, you get generic fluff.

3. The Format (What is the output?)

Set yourself up for success. Don’t let the AI guess the format. Never let the AI decide.

• Bad: “Give me some ideas.”

• Good: “Output a Markdown table with 3 columns: [Headline Idea], [Psychological Hook], [Estimated CTR]. Provide 10 variations.”

Why it works: It forces the AI to be dense and scannable.

The “Before and After”

Let’s look at the difference this architecture makes in the real world.

The Amateur Prompt:

“Write a welcome email for my newsletter about AI.”

The R.C.F. Prompt:

[ROLE] Act as a Newsletter Growth Specialist who specializes in high-retention onboarding sequences.

[CONTEXT] I am launching “VengaDragon,” a digital magazine about AI and Business. My readers are smart professionals. They hate fluff. They want actionable value.

[FORMAT] Write a Welcome Email (max 200 words). Use a punchy, direct tone. Include a bulleted list of what they can expect. End with a question to drive replies.

The first prompt gives you a generic “Hello everyone!” email.

The second prompt gives you a strategic asset that builds a business.

For your next 5 interactions with AI, I want you to try the R.C.F. Protocol.

Before you hit enter, check the architecture:

1. Did you assign a Role?

2. Did you set the Context?

3. Did you define the Format?

They log into ChatGPT or Claude and they treat it like an encyclopedia. They ask it questions like “What is the capital of Peru?” or “Who won the 1986 World Series?”

This is a waste of technology. It is like buying a Ferrari to drive 10 miles per hour in a school zone.

If you want facts, use Google. If you want specific data, use a database.

If you want to unlock the power of the 55/35 Protocol, you need to stop treating AI like a retrieval tool and start treating it like a Reasoning Engine.

The Shift

Google retrieves information that already exists. AI creates information that has never existed before.

When you ask AI a fact, you are gambling. It might hallucinate. It might “lie.”

But when you ask AI to think, you are leveraging its true power.

I don’t use AI to tell me things I can look up myself. I use it as an exoskeleton for my mind. I use it to argue, to strategize, and to critique.

The Difference in Action

Here is the difference between a “Search” mindset and a “Sentient” mindset.

The Search Mindset (Wrong):

“What are the best marketing strategies for a newsletter?”

This is lazy. You will get generic B.S. that looks like a Wikipedia entry.

The Sentient Mindset (Right):

“I am launching a digital magazine for multi-passionate entrepreneurs. I want to grow to 1,000 subscribers in 30 days without paid ads. Act as a veteran marketing director. Critique my goal and give me three unconventional growth tactics that rely on community building.”

Do you see the difference?

The first prompt asks for information. The second prompt asks for reasoning.

Stop Asking “What”

If you want to get value out of this column, you need to change your default behavior.

Stop asking the AI

“What is...”

Start asking the AI

“How would you...” or “Why did this fail...”

Use it to simulate a debate partner. Use it to find holes in your logic. Use it to speed up your execution. Double and triple check its output.

This is the core of the protocol. I provide the wisdom and the direction. The AI provides the speed and the structure.

Stop searching. Start building.
